3 Things To Be Careful About When You Have A Septic System

For the most part, your septic system can take of itself. However, there are a few things that you should be doing to take care of your septic system.

1. Be Careful What You Put Down Your Pipes

First, you need to be careful about what you put down your drainage pipes. Really, the only thing that should go down your drainage pipes is toilet paper, water, and human waste.

No other paper or food products should go down your drainage pipes. That means throwing your tissues into the trash instead of the toilet and scraping food scraps into the trash instead of putting them down your compactor. Food products and other paper products do not do well in your septic system and only clog things up. You really only want the bare necessities going into our septic system.

2. Be Careful What You Plant Outside

Second, your septic tank is buried outside. Your septic tank filters a lot of water through it and then leaks that water back out into the ground throughout the septic system drainage field.

You need to be careful what you plant around your septic system. You don't want to plant any trees or bushes that are known to be deep and seek out water. For example, weeping willow trees are famous for growing really deep and long roots that will go just about anywhere to get the water the tree needs. This is not a good set-up. You don't want roots to get into your septic system and damage it.

Only plant trees and bushes that have short and shallow root systems around your septic tank and drainage field. You don't want to have your septic system damaged by roots. That can be expensive to fix.

3. Be Careful About Leaks

Finally, be careful about leaks. You are going to want to make sure that you don't have any leaks in your system. Leaking water can cause your septic storage tank to get too much water in it all at once. You don't want to overflow your septic tank, which can happen when you leave a leak unattended for too long. Check all of your pipes and make sure that you don't have any leaks. If you find any leaks in your pipes or faucets, be sure to fix them right away.

If you have a septic system, you are going to want to make sure that you are careful about what you put down your pipes. You need to be careful about what you plant outside, and you need to make sure that you take care of any water leaks right away. If you are careful about the three things above, your septic system should work well without getting damaged.

About Me

Choosing Cleanliness Every Day

After struggling for months to make my home a little cleaner, I finally decided to talk with a sanitation team to see if they could help. They talked with me about yard trash removal and working on overall organization, and it made a tremendous difference. After removing various things from my home and yard, the place looked and smelled fantastic, and I was really happy about our progress. I chose to create a blog about sanitation because it has been such a powerful force in my life. Check out this website to learn more about choosing cleanliness each and every day.
